In the first year of operations, 26% of all medical volunteers were
Canadian, coming from backgrounds such as nurses, doctors,
surgeons, pharmacists, physical therapists, radiologists, and biomedical
and IT technicians. These volunteers played a crucial role in laying the
groundwork for the future success of the pediatric teaching hospital
The Laos Friends Hospital for Children Canadian Connection:
– high % of donations from Canada mostly Vancouver and Calgary
– highest % of volunteers and part-time staff from Canada, mostly Alberta
-Dr. Cheri Nijssen-Jordan,  Canadian physician from Calgary, “Alberta’s Children’s Hospital”, took one year out to oversee the Laos Friends Hospital for Children in Laung Prabang, Laos, in the capacity of Executive Director.
-Current director of Nursing, Rebecca Morante is a graduate from Mt Royal.
